Venue access is increasingly impaired by development work, disruption and travel information bottlenecks, deterring visitors and costing ticket vendors and venues valuable sales. Guiding People to Venues & Events ‘The Smart Way’ explains how our innovative government-sponsored Travel Assistant platform is reducing box office travel queries whilst creating granular analytics, improving visitor experiences and driving repeat visits.

Interactive locations and intelligent digital signage (iLIDS), are being used to create ‘smart city’ environments the world over, where the environment itself becomes the user-interface.

This informal Ģ����ý. networking event is an opportunity to see how research funded by the Department for Transport into interactive locations and intelligent digital signage is powering a new train platform information system, and to take a virtual reality walk-through intelligent responsive lighting.

Background

MyJrny’ aims to incentivise disconnected service providers within the transport ecosystem to collaborate in the delivery of more integrated and enhanced end-to-end journeys for UK passengers. Our vision is for the cloud-based software and IoT sensor network is designed to connect an individual’s immediate travel requirements and behavioural habits to available services being offered by transport operating companies and providers of complementary services (e.g. food & beverage, accommodation etc.).

Innovation: MyJrny’s unique selling point is its innovative personal data management architecture, which allows the platform to define highly personalised, and thus more relevant travel guidance for users, whilst preserving the individual’s anonymity and right to privacy. Its second innovative feature is the revenue model, which enables service providers to generate income through affiliate commissions from recommended services, and from the exploitation of internet-connected assets, including outdoor signage, buildings and vehicles. The model establishes the technical framework and financial incentive for greater collaboration between transport operators whilst integrating services from other commercial sectors. Through its low cost of deployment and low-touch integration with legacy technologies, afforded by technological advancement and innovation, MyJrny constitutes an essential ‘shared-economy’ component for UK Government to deliver its vision of a smarter and more integrated transport systems infrastructure.

Regional Focus: The aim of the project is to validate the MyJrny model and its assumed benefits by conducting a live pilot across the CWLEP region, during 2018. The industrial research and development activity outlined is required to bring the current MyJrny initiative from proof-of-concept to a mature prototype, which has been validated in a live environment and is ready for commercialisation.

A Unique ‘Mobility-as-a-Service’ product: Enable iD plans to exploit MyJrny in the public, consumer and corporate enterprise markets through the creation of a new white-label ‘personal mobility account’ product, that will be offered to end-users through B2B channel partners in these respective target markets. We have letters of intent in this regard from Transport for West Midlands, Arriva UK Trains, Barclays Bank and Tata.

Our Requirements

We are looking for quotations for services covering system development and regional deployment and testing. An overview of our requirements are as follows:

System Development

We are looking for a software developer on a contract basis to develop the middleware functionality that is being specified.

Although it is not essential, you will preferably have experience with C#, the .NET Framework and Microsoft SQL Server. You may have had some exposure to key web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

We need to develop a mature front-end prototype interface to test and validate the service ‘in-market’. The project will deliver the front-end platform prototype, which by project end, has been validated in a real-world environment by means of a live pilot – i.e. progressing the current prototype to pre-launch phase.

Regional deployment and testing

As part of our regional deployment, we need to ensure that our solution is highly accessibility by users with a broad range of accessibility requirements. Digital Accessibility is crucial for ensuring that all the visitors to our platform are able to access it simply and easily. Improving accessibility and the digital experience will have a positive impact on the estimated 6.1 million UK internet users with accessibility needs and is critical to ensuring that our organisation is legally compliant and maximising access for all.

We require the successful bidder to provide:

• Testing of web pages against WCAG 2.1/EN 301 549 accessibility guidelines.
• A RAG risk rating on accessibility issues with supporting notes.
• A report of accessibility issues, including notes for developers to assist with resolving any issues.
• Review of the user experience for visitors using assistive technology including screen readers, alternative input methods, text-to-speech and customisation tools.
• Production of a report detailing how the web pages tested conform to the accessibility guidelines including recommendations for remediating accessibility issues and improving the user experiences for assistive technology users.
• Create website accessibility statements and accessibility help pages as required.

It is anticipated that the successful partner will provide resources to cover user acceptance testing, unit and system testing.

PHASE 1 – this phase requires specifications for the development of the MyJrny platform prototype to be authored. Key tasks completed within this period will include mapping available transport data APIs, defining typical user experience journey maps, and establishing rules for handling of personal data. Outputs will need to include reports specifying platform functionality requirements based on current customer travel patterns.

PHASE 2 – Comprises building a mature platform prototype enabled via the Phase 1 deliverables and the engagement of commercial stakeholders. Outputs include a pilot-ready MyJrny platform and demonstration app interface, and an engaged and educated user-base ready for pilot deployment.

The plan’s execution will need to be overseen by an experienced, full-time, PRINCE2 certified Project Manager. Their main responsibilities include: (1) Coordinating the delivery of all project activities; (2) Establishing an effective communications plan; and (3) Serving as the project’s contact point for interfaces with the funding authority and other external stakeholders.

Our proven in-house management approach will be utilised to deliver the software development. We employ a stage-gate process for tracking the project’s progress from concept to final delivery. Stages are passed when specific technical and commercial metrics are satisfied and signed off by the funding authority.

LOCATION

Since finishing school, I had placed myself in the family business which in turn had worked out well. However, a year on I came to the conclusion I had to expand my career prospects and figured joining the local college could aid in this conclusion. I started off enrolling myself onto an IT practitioners course where at this point I had very little knowledge on the vast subject, however, upon finishing the course with great marks my views on IT and the technology sector had grown phenomenally, so much so that I carried on my education through an IT based apprenticeship.

Throughout this apprenticeship, predominantly supporting IT systems in primary education, I gained real-life experience and was faced with the troubles almost every IT technician comes across at some point during their career. I also built great interpersonal skills, which help to keep a smile on my face! After a year had gone by my curiosity in other segments of IT had expanded greatly. I had to make a decision – remain an IT technician or explore the expanding world of IT.

With the previous apprenticeship coming to an end, I was invited to interview at Enable iD, where both the reception and senior staff warmly greeted me. During my interview process, I was educated on the company with their current projects and future plans, and how a huge part of my potential role would be based on the focus of IoT (Internet of Things), at this point I knew this was an opportunity I would most definitely wish to pursue and show off my greatest talents.

Upon discovering I was successfully chosen and had secured myself the position of a apprentice Technology Project Manager, I knew this is where I could really start to grow!

On my first day at the company I was again pleasantly welcomed, by Chris (Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, Enable iD) who showed me around the incredibly designed offices and introduced me to Enable’s enthusiastic and highly skilled team. I was then shown to my new work-station, where a MacBook Pro accompanied by a bottle of champagne awaited.

Chris and the team have been hugely supportive and explained all my new tasks in great depth. I’m now collaborating on four multi-stakeholder product development programmes and have gained a detailed understanding of what type of ongoing tasks await me – from the administrative side of project management and communications, through to software and IoT network deployment and management. I’m thoroughly enjoying being educated in these projects, getting a fascinating insight into how our hardware and software capability is implemented, to deliver real-time transport network monitoring that enables personalised ‘intelligent mobility ’.

It’s an honor to have the opportunity to continue learning as part of the team here at Enable iD.
